I am a PhD candidate at Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS), department of Animal Ecology, Wildlife Ecology and Conservation group and Behavioural Ecology group. I have studied Wildlife Management for my undergraduate and Biology of Conservation in my Postgraduate studies. Thus, a wildlife ecologist currently working with the Wildlife Research and Training Institute in Kenya for the past 15 years. My passion for terrestrial megafauna led me to focus my research specifically on African elephants (Loxodonta africana). Kenya is home to over 38,000 elephants despite being keystone species and bulky feeders. My study investigates the existing gaps in our understanding of elephant space use and decision-making during their seasonal movements within pastoral community areas in southern Kenya. The study will also investigate elephant foraging behaviour as well as interaction with humans in the ever-changing land uses. The findings from this research will help inform future conservation strategies for elephants in the region.
